In the passÈ composé with être, the past participle always agrees with the subject in gender and number. The following verbs* take Ítre in the passé composé. The drawing that follows
lists most of these verbs, organized around the „house of Ítre.¾

aller: allé to go
arriver: arrive to arrive
descendre: descendu to go down; to get off
devenir: devenu to become
entrer: entrÈ to enter
monter: montÈ to go up; to climb
mourir: mort to die
naÓtre: nÈ to be born |
partir: parti to leave
passer (par): passÈ to pass (by)
rentrer: rentrÈ to return; to go home
rester; restÈ to stay
retourner: retournÈ to return; to go back
revenir: revenu to come back
sortir: sorti to go out
tomber: tombÈ to fall
venir: venu to come |

* When monter, descendre, sortir and
passer are followed by a direct object, they take avoir in the passÈ
composÈ:
